The Belmont Stakes is a prestigious Grade I stakes race held yearly in June at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. The race is the third leg of the Triple Crown, following five weeks after the Kentucky Derby, and three weeks after the Preakness Stakes. Today June 9th, 2007 is the 139th running of the Belmont Stakes, the third jewel in the Triple Crown of horseracing. Belmont Park has two race meets — a 61-day spring/summer meet that runs May 2nd to July 22nd, and a 32-day fall championship meet that runs September 7th to October 21st.
